ازدواج زیرباران قند

من چون دختر جوانی بودم که هنوز ازدواج نکرده بودم، میبایستی خارج از اتاقی باشم که مراسم عقد کنان در آن برگزار میشد. این موضوع باعث کنجکاوی شدید من در باره این مراسم بود.
آنچه مورد تعجّت بود جدائی گروه زنان و مردان بود که هر گروه در یک طرف دور از هم ایستاده بودند. دوستان و خویشاوندان عروس هر یک بنوبت دو کّله قند را روی سر عروس و داماد بهم می سائیدند. این که زنان جوان ، مدرن و شیک پوش در کنار مادر و مادر بزرگ های خودملبٌس با لباسهای ساده یا با حجاب ایستاده بودند، خیلی جالب و سر گرم کننده بود.

As an unmarried teenager, I was supposed to stay out of the room in which the wedding ceremony was performed. This made me so curious about the event.
What was amazing to me was the segregation of men and women who each stood on their own side of the room. Female friends and family members took turns slowly mashing two giant lumps of sugar over the bride and groom’s heads. It was entertaining to see the polished, fashion-conscious women standing next to their religious, old-fashioned mothers and grandmothers.
